For almost 25 years, BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship has been a part of the Apartment Partners Program which is run by the Bucks County Housing Group. The Bucks County Housing Group “works to advance the interests of people with low-moderate income and people in crisis through the provision of affordable housing and related services.” They offer housing counseling to their clients. They also offer a community food pantry which acts as a supplementary resource to those in need.
The apartment that we sponsor usually has a mother and her children who are in transition from homelessness, domestic abuse or other difficult circumstances. When a new family moves into the apartment, we supply a welcome basket containing new pillows, sheets and towels as well as cleaning supplies. We collect holiday food baskets for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. We also collect Christmas gifts for the family. We collect summer items to support the children attending the Doylestown Y camp. At various times, we will request specific items needed by the family, such as school supplies, clothing and tutoring. We usually have 1-2 families per year.
The Apartment Partners Program is an opportunity for everyone in the congregation to help. The Youth Group and Religious Education classes have participated and been of great help in supporting the Apartment Partners Program.
