If you are at least 16 years old, watch this page and BuxMont’s E-Voice for details on our next trash pick-ups . We try to schedule trash pick-ups four times yearly–April, June, August, and October. Our organizers will add you to the list of volunteers and welcome you as a hands-on participant! We will meet over by the AT&T Store and Sherwin Williams parking lot along nearby Paul Valley Road (Creek View Shopping Center). We work no more than two hours. With enough volunteers, we can complete our clean-up in less time. Questions? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please help in making a difference to our hometown, Warrington, Pennsylvania!
October 8 Trash Pick-up Gets a Good Start on Summer Trash Accumulation
March 27 Just-in-Time Pick-up Clears Bulkiest Trash from Paul Valley Road
Susie, Ella, Ruth, and Karen swooped through the lawns, gutters, and some of the woods’ edge along Paul Valley Road Thursday morning. It was Ruth’s suggestion to try to beat the lawn mowers, which may be out earlier than usual this year due to frequent warm temperatures. They will have at least eight fewer trash bags of junk to shred. We also took photos of the tremendous accumulation that we weren’t able to get to along the LA Fitness parking lot and back in the woods. The type of trash indicates that much of it must blow over from the dumpsters of Creek View Shopping Center businesses. Perhaps we can start thinking about a higher level of prevention??
August 15 Trash Pick-up a Hot, Quick Success
Thirteen of us scoured Paul Valley Road between 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. with a final outdoor temperature of 86 degrees F. Participants were: Karen, Ruth, Stefania, Dale, Melissa, Ken, Susie, Larry, Ella, Harry, Jack, Lillian, and Adrienne. We cleared the area immediately behind the barrier fence near the creek as well as the lawns. Larry and Ken ventured back towards the Lowes dumpster areas, whence issueth some of the trash that eventually gets out to the roadway and perimeter areas. We couldn’t catch everyone for a photo, but here are many of our picker-uppers.
We’ve renewed our commitment to clean up Paul Valley Road.
BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is committed to respecting the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part. As part of the Green Sanctuary initiative, the fellowship has adopted Paul Valley Road, with a commitment to pick up trash four times a year, including one pick-up in October and one in April. Our sponsorship is through Warrington Township’s Environmental Advisory Council (EAC). We notify the EAC at least a week ahead of each planned clean-up event. The EAC provides safety equipment including protective gloves and trash bags. Please wear shoes with closed toes. Hat, sunscreen, and water bottle recommended. Picker-uppers must be at least 16 years old, but younger youth may assist with organizing and support.
Twelve BuxMonters collect 18 bags of trash on Paul Valley Road and in adjacent stream valley on April 26, 2015.
We picked up about 18 full trash bags on Paul Valley Road this morning after the first service. What a great follow-up to a service celebrating Hope for the Earth! Venturesome volunteers got part way into the woods adjacent to the small tributary to the Little Neshaminy Creek. Finds included boxes, chunks of metal, liquor bottles, huge chunks of styrofoam and sheets of plastic. Note the re-staging of Susie’s favorite find: a dollar bill discovered behind a concrete barrier. This is the second time we have found real money.
Participants included “newbies”: Ken, Marion, Adrienne, Jane, and Micki. Experienced trash-pickers were: Karen, Ruth, Melissa, Susie, Cindy, Ella, and Lillian.
Ten BuxMonters complete road pick-up on October 20, 2013 (first date of our renewed commitment).
Ella, George, Karen, and Susie coordinated with Warrington Township (thanks to support from Ivy and Fred of the Warrington Environmental Advisory Council) to organize BuxMont’s first effort in 2013 to clear trash from Paul Valley Road. Ten of us worked about an hour and a half on both sides of the road, with some of the more intrepid volunteers even pushing into the gully on the south side. Noteworthy finds included a car radiator, an old umbrella, whiskey bottles, and a mysterious metal object. We had fun! It was good exercise too. (Click on any photo to see it full size.)
April 9, 2016 road pick-up cancelled due to predicted bad weather. We’ll reschedule soon!
