Speaker: Terri Lyons.
During the great escape from suffocating poverty and the elusive search for freedom, the complicated musical score of our history was created. Jazz, deeply rooted in the blues, buffered the painful thorns of American life that was both promising and cruel. Fighting off minstrelsy, Jim Crow and lynching was no small feat, but it was accomplished with persistence in the soul and a song in the heart.
