Jayne Thompson will discuss experiences gained during seven years of teaching men incarcerated for life at S.C.I.Graterford. She and the incarcerated men collaborated to create LETTERS TO MY YOUNGER SELF: AN ANTHOLOGY OF WRITINGS BY MEN AT S.C.I. GRATERFORD. The men wrote letters to their younger selves, pieces about decisions made between ages 11-17 that sit uncomfortably in their consciences with the hope of reaching an audience of young people, particularly those in juvenile facilities. They had empathy for young people they had never met. Jayne hoped that the writers could find the same empathy for themselves. She travels with the book to juvenile detention centers where the books are given for free to the incarcerated children. All sales of the book go toward providing free copies to children.
Jayne will have copies of the book available after the service and will be glad to answer questions about her teaching experiences.
Service begins at 10:15 a.m.
