September 19: First day of regular RE classes

Our Whole Lives (OWL)

Our Whole Lives (OWL) Sexuality Education for 10th-12th graders Will Be Offered this Year

Using a comprehensive approach, this program helps senior-high youth gain the knowledge, life principles and skills they need to express their sexuality in life-enhancing ways.

The Our Whole Lives values are:
• Self Worth
• Sexual Health
• Responsibility
• Justice and Inclusiveness

Each level of Our Whole Lives offers:

• Up-to-date information and honest, age-appropriate answers to all participants' questions
• Activities to help participants clarify values and improve decision-making skills
• Effective group-building to create a safe and supportive peer group
• Education about sexual abuse, exploitation, and harassment
• Opportunities to critique media messages about gender and sexuality
• Acceptance of diversity
• Encouragement to act for justice

The class will be preceded by a mandatory parents meeting on Sunday evening, September 19. The class is 12 sessions long and will meet on Sunday evenings once or twice a month beginning October 10 and running through April. It is really important that students not miss any of the classes. Senior High OWL will be in addition to other Youth Group activities. Teens can participate in OWL and not Youth Group or Youth Group and not OWL, though we would love to have them do both!

The class will be taught by Debi and Robert Morris. Debi is a life long UU who was raised at the UU Fellowship of Lower Bucks and returned there with Robert after they had children. They began attending BuxMont last fall when their daughter Ziya, 13, began attending Junior High OWL here. They have taught the Senior High OWL class twice before. Debi and Robert feel this is a vital class for youth and look forward to teaching it at BuxMont.

If you have questions about the details or would like your youth to attend this class, please contact Treva Burger, Youth Advisor and Liaison to the RE Board
