RE CURRICULUM:
Fall of 2010 through Spring of 2011

Pre-School (rm. 103) Class Liaison: Rachel Thierolf
Curriculum: Celebrating Me & My World
The children’s growing awareness of their own bodies and the world around them will be the focus of their year, with stories and songs about hands, feet, their senses, animals, plants and the elements.

Grades K/1 (rm.104) Class Liaison: Gail Houseman
Curriculum: Special Times
Special Times acquaints children with the Jewish and Christian heritages out of which our Unitarian Universalist faith has grown, and engages them in celebrations of Jewish and Christian holidays and other “Special Times,” such as the Shabbat/Sabbath, Thanksgiving and everybody’s birthday.

Grades 2/3 (rm. 101-B) Class Liaison: Grant Alger
Curriculum: Stepping Stone Year
The curriculum addresses children who are taking their first structured steps in forming religious identities and concepts. A Stepping Stone Year draws upon science, myth, Unitarian and Universalist traditions, and other secular and spiritual resources to support children in their inquiry. On the final Sunday, certificates, booklets and “stepping stones” are awarded to the children.

Grades 4/5 (rm. 101-A) Class Liaison: Jenn Kloss
Curriculum: Bibleodeon
Bibleodeon introduces Hebrew and Christian scriptures by presenting the best-known Hebrew and Christian stories with such props as the Bibleodeon microphone and such interactive challenges as investigating the Cain-Abel crime scene. Participants act in 11 amusing playlets with characters like the Fatted Calf, illustrate a time line, keep doodle books, give awards to outstanding biblical women, and more. They explore connections between biblical events and Unitarian Universalist principles, between biblical ideas and their own lives.

Grades 6/7 (rm. 102) Class Liaison: Cindy Mullikin
Curriculum: Neighboring Faiths
This curriculum explores the diversity of religions in our world. Children, advisors and parents visit other faith communities and worship with them. They experience other traditions as they are practiced in our surrounding communities. The children clarify their values and beliefs in the context of Unitarian Universalism and an increased familiarity with the world’s religions.

Grades 8/9 (rm 105) Class Liaisons: Lynne Nugent/Howard Bennett
Curriculum: Coming of Age
Youth in Coming of Age will discuss personal beliefs and problems of belief. Each student will be assigned a volunteer mentor from the congregation who will help her/him refine and produce a personal credo. Our texts will include the Bible, A Chosen Faith, This I Believe, If Yes Is the Answer and the weekly radio program "Speaking of Faith." The students will spend a weekend in Boston visiting historic UU sites and another weekend in a closer site, perhaps Murray Grove. The year will culminate with a Sunday service by the group when they will share their insights with the congregation.

Youth Group grades 9-12 (Sunday evenings, rm. 106) Class Liaison: Treva Burger
The goal of the youth group is age appropriate UU community which offers support and challenges as our youth grow toward young adulthood. There will be social time, social action, watching and discussing movies, preparation of a youth worship service and a Senior High Our Whole Lives sexuality to help them gain the knowledge, life principles and skills they need to express their sexuality in life-enhancing ways.
