BACKYARD AND BUILDING BEAUTIFICATION
BREAKFASTs (B5) in April, you’ll have more
opportunities to join us in May or June!
April’s B5 was a resounding success, and with around 30
BuxMonters helping, including kids from ages 6 up through the 80’s, it was a
true inter-generational community event. Did you notice how nice BuxMont’s grounds look lately?
Much of this happened at April’s B5 – volunteers cleaned
out the flower beds and bushes, put lots of mulch down, and a new sturdier fence
was put up by the creek. Do you miss the dead bugs in the sanctuary lights?
These were cleaned up at the B5, along with ceiling lights and
vents in some of the RE classrooms. All
the toys in the nursery were washed and disinfected, too! The next B5 is scheduled for May 10th with a rain date of May 17th, followed by June 7th with a rain date of June 14th. See the signup sheet on the bulletin board in the social hall, or Contact Fred Suffian or Howard Barkan for more information. “CAKES FOR THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN” COMES TO BUXMONT“Cakes for the Queen of Heaven: in Ancient Times”, UU’s popular feminist theology curriculum, will be offered at BuxMont for 5 Thursday’s from 7:30-9:30pm starting May 8th. “Cakes for the Queen of Heaven” introduces participants to ancient Goddesses, weaving their stories together with major concerns of women today. The five-session adult RE curriculum is an updated version of the original “Cakes for the Queen of Heaven” (1986). It begins with powerful writings from women who pioneered UU feminist theology such as Shirley's Ranck's "Statement of Feminist Theology". The themes of the fives session are: The Sacred Female, In the Name of the Mother and the Daughter, Womanpower, The First Turning-From Goddess to God, and Reclaiming Women's Heritage of Peace." Each class is a balance of discussion of readings, viewing archeological indicators of women’s role in spirituality, exercises where we explore our personal experience, song and celebration. Participants will be given materials for each class and a list of resources by a number of important authors. The most common response from women who have taken Cakes is “It changed my life!” Join in the Cakes circle. Register now by contacting Sonja Irwin or sign up at the Cakes poster in the social hall. In this concert he will be joined by our Minister, Dan Schatz (a folksinger, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter in his own right), as the evening’s special guest performer.GENERAL ASSEMBLY IS COMINGGeneral Assembly (GA) is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists.
