Ready to Party? The Merriment Committee invites ALL of BuxMont to this year’s Annual Winter Social on Saturday, February 4th from 6:30PM to 10:30PM! We are having a trivia game for all ages, music, and fun and games for the kids. So bring your favorite food to share, and your wealth of trivia knowledge, and come have fun. DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE, DOUBLE YOUR FUN, DOUBLE YOUR PLEDGE (or maybe not) at this year’s party. We still need lots of volunteers to pull it off. Contact Kim or Blair Alegant to find out how to help. Feb 17 - 7:00pm: The 800 Mile Wall (Discussion will follow) The 800 Mile Wall highlights the construction of the new border walls along the U.S.- Mexico border as well as the effect on migrants trying to cross into the U.S. This powerful 90-minute film is an unflinching look at a failed U.S. border strategy that many believe has caused the death of thousands of migrants and violates fundamental human rights. Since border walls have been built, well over 5,000 migrant bodies have been recovered in U.S. deserts, mountains and canals. Some unofficial reports put the death toll as high as 10,000 men, women and children. As a direct result of U.S. border policy, migrants are forced to cross treacherous deserts and mountains in search of low skill and low paying jobs in the United States. The New York Times writes, "Current border strategy is serving as a funnel through deadly terrain." The 800 Mile Wall documents, in great detail, the ineffective and deadly results of a failed border policy and offers some thoughts on how the current human rights crisis may be resolved. Directed by John Carlos Frey and produced by Jack Lorenz. Running Time: 90 minutes. Childcare will be provided, if notified ahead of time. Please contact Yvonne Marlier request childcare or with any questions. Mar 3 - 7:00 PM: Anna Crusis Women’s Choir Sings at BuxMont In celebration of Women's History Month, on Saturday, March 3 the Little Neshaminy Concert Series will present the Anna Crusis Women’s Choir at 7:00 pm. Be sure to hold that date! We are very excited and pleased to have them at BuxMont. Their excellent music will inspire and challenge you, but it will also make you laugh. Anna Crusis is dedicated to social justice, diversity and music of all cultures. Founded in the 1970’s to promote women’s music and to give gay and straight women a strong community where they could find their voice and live their feminist principles, Anna Crusis has grown into a premier community chorus and an important advocate for change in the Philadelphia region. They have been very active in supporting women’s music through commissioning many new works over the years. While they present concerts throughout Philadelphia as well as more distant locations, Anna Crusis has not performed in Bucks County for a number of years. So this is an opportunity for many of us to enjoy their music and to introduce them to our neighbors and friends. Please spread the word! If you would like to learn more about them, check their website http://www.annacrusis.com. The concert will be in our sanctuary at 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 3. Admission is $15, with a $5 discount for students and seniors. There is a sliding scale for those who cannot afford the admission. Child care will be provided. March 10 - Circle Dinner We would like to encourage more new members to sign up for the Circle Dinners so they can get to know us better. So we suggest that our “seasoned” members, who sign up to host, specifically invite new or prospective Fellowship members to their homes (noting on the signup sheet or via e-mail that they will be joining you). A personal invitation always trumps volunteering and is harder to refuse. These covered-dish dinners are a wonderful way of getting to know our members without a specific agenda or meeting. The next Circle Dinner is Saturday, March 10, and hopefully by then the snows will be gone and the robins arriving. The signup sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the Social Hall, or e-mail (circledinners@buxmontuu.org). The deadline is Sunday, February 18, to allow us time for scheduling. You will be notified by e-mail of the home where you will be dining and with whom. Your host will contact you ahead of time asking what you would like to bring. If you have any questions or concerns just contact one of us. Jaynemarie Dayer and Arlene Schaller
