FROM THE BOARD
(Message
from our Board President) A complete copy of the minutes is posted on the
bulletin board in the Social Hall; if anyone would like a copy, please call
Karen Gallagher (215-343-0406). MESSAGE FROM OUR MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR ASK THE MINISTER 2008Do you have a burning question you’ve always wanted to ask your minister? Is there something you’ve been wondering about Unitarian Universalist history and theologies, world religions, BuxMont, the Bible, ethics, ministry, or anything else? Here is your chance to have it addressed in the second annual “Ask me a Question” service on Sunday, June 8. Previous services have yielded questions (and even a few answers) on everything from tolerating those who do not tolerate others to the joys of being a new parents to ancient Mayan prophecies. Questions should be written on index cards and placed in the special box in the social hall for the month of May. Dan will then select a variety of questions to address. (Whether your question gets addressed that Sunday depends on the number of questions we receive.) For clarification, each questioner is encouraged to include name and phone number, but during the service all questions will remain anonymous.
HOW TO SPREAD THE NEWSHere are the different ways to get information to BuxMonters.
Reporting problems If you notice anything at the Fellowship missing or not working properly, please let our Administrator, Karen Gallagher, know via an e-mail message. Leaving a note on the desk in the office doesn't always work because notes can be lost, moved, or picked up accidentally. Thanks for your help. SUPPORT BUXMONT FINANCIALLY WITHOUT SPENDING MORE MONEY! Your pledge to the annual Canvass is and will always be the most important source of income for the Fellowship, but did you know that you can provide additional financial support for our liberal religious mission in other ways, when you make purchases that you would be making anyway? Merchant rebate programs have been around for years, but they are becoming increasingly popular and easy to participate in. Here are three ways that you can benefit BuxMont in your normal shopping, with the newest ones listed first. Register and shop online through
schoolcash.com
It’s easy – just go to www.schoolcash.com, go to the registration page, and enter BuxMont in the school name field, Warrington in the city field, and choose Pennsylvania from the drop down list of states. A screen will then appear giving the complete name of BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for you to choose. Complete the registration by giving your name, address, e-mail address and a password. Every time you log in to schoolcash.com, it will remember who you are, and when you go to the merchant of your choice through their link, the specified rebate will be made to BuxMont. Register at eScrip.com for supermarket
and credit card shopping You can also register your credit card(s) with eScrip.com, so that in-store purchases also earn rebates for BuxMont. This must be done on line, so if you don’t have a computer with an internet connection, Karen Gallagher or Ed Schaller can help you register over the Fellowship’s computer. After that, you don’t need the computer any more – just pay for your purchase at a participating merchant with your credit card. Some of the same merchants participate in both eScrip and schoolcash, but we don’t know if they will give rebates through both on the same purchase. It will be interesting to find out! Buy Acme gift certificates at BuxMont Do you have items up in your attic, or down in your basement, or hidden in some drawer, that you think might be worth something? Consider donating to BuxMont for auction on eBay. You will get a receipt for your tax-deductible donation, reflecting the amount that the high bidder paid for it! And, the Fellowship would gain an outside source of income, instead of having to do fundraising only within our own congregation. One item recently sold for $200! Contact Howard Barkan for more info. (Click on the eBay logo to see BuxMont auctions that are ongoing or ended in the last 30 days.) BUXMONT PHONE/E-MAIL CHAIN Bobbi Penniman, Communications Chair, has a BuxMont phone and e-mail chain. The purpose of this is to be able to disseminate information of a timely or critical nature, for which the usual Sunday announcements and/or Liberal Voice would not suffice. However, there are certainly many members and friends who have opted not to join this list: If you would like to be added to the phone or e-mail chain, please contact Bobbi. Also, if your e-mail address has changed recently, please let Bobbi know. In case you think that you're on the e-mail list, but you haven't received any BuxMont-wide e-mails in the last month or so, you're probably not, or we have an old invalid e-mail address. CARING COMMITTEE The Caring Committee will use the Fellowship e-mail directory to request help for our members in time of need. It works a lot faster than the "old-fashioned" telephone list. If you don't have e-mail, don't check it often, or still want us to call you personally, please give your telephone number to Nancy Taylor or Linda Wisniewski. Thanks for all your support.
