Membership Committee Chair
Job Description
The Membership Committee, in an effort to
promote the sorely needed message of Unitarian Universalism in the wider
world, strives to engage newcomers and ensure they have the best possible
experience as they explore congregational life. This is accomplished
through contacting potential new members, welcoming newcomers, and recognizing
and helping to integrate new members into the life of the Fellowship.
The Membership Committee Chair will:
 | Nurture a group of five to seven
committee members, at minimum, who are well-versed in the principles
of Unitarian Universalism, the nature of BuxMont’s programs and
emphasis, and who can articulate a reason for people to join.
 | Lead the committee in surveying the
area to identify areas (geographic, economic, social, and political)
in which new members might be found and seek out new members.
 | Lead the committee in examining the
membership roll and assist in keeping it current, and to maintain
contact with members whose participation may be waning.
 | Preside at a monthly meeting of the
Membership Committee.
 | Collaborate with and support the paid
Membership staff member in explaining the joys and responsibilities of
membership.
 | Attend UUA and JPD conferences and
seminars, read articles and books on membership, and bring ideas back
to the group.
 | Coordinate the volunteer schedule for
the Visitor’s Center and ensure that literature for newcomers is
updated and available.
 | Coordinate with an individual or
group of volunteers willing to communicate with members regarding the
acute or chronic needs of Fellowship members (Caring Committee).
This may be, for example, a ride to the hospital, meals or respite
time needed, or to arrange for flowers to be sent in case of illness
or death.
 | Provide a written annual budget and
report upon request.
 | Maintain the Membership binder.
 | Attend Fellowship Council Meetings. |
