SPLINTERS
FROM THE BOARD
It is a beautiful Spring Day…a perfect day…the morning
after the second half of the April Board meeting.
We began last week by approving the hire of Carol Cotton as Accompanist
to our Music Program and she has resigned her position as Trustee-at-Large.
Thank you to Michael Kahn, Randy Faulkner, Ellen Happ, John Hook and Mary
Long for serving on the Search Committee.
Strategic Planning presented us with preliminary findings
and recommendations for the growth and vitality of the Fellowship. With these in
mind, we went about setting the priorities for funding next year’s budget.
(The results of the Annual Stewardship Campaign can be found in a
separate article on page 4). Keeping
our mission and vision in mind, the Board decided to give our staff a cost of
living increase even if it means drawing on our operating reserve. If we are
going to be a beacon for economic justice, we need to pay our staff a just wage,
even in these economically uncertain times.
We did not receive enough in pledges and with the auction
results an unknown, we are unable to commit to paying our UUA and JPD dues.
On the agenda at the Congregational meeting on Sunday May 18th
after the service, we will ask for the community’s input about how to address
this issue.
It is harder when bogged down in details and thoughts of
limited resources to remember the vision of the ministry. With the birds
chirping and flowers and trees blooming, it is easier to see the interconnection
of all of life.
Yvonne
Marlier,
President, Board of Trustees
Everyone is welcome at
Board of Trustees meetings, and we would like to see some of you attend. We meet
on the second Monday of each month.
