This is a time of great change for BuxMont – and for me. Last month I announced that I have accepted a full-time position as Director of Lifespan Religious Education at the Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, PA, effective in July. My last day as your DRE at BuxMont will be June 30.
Many of you have offered me your congratulations and good wishes. And many of you have expressed sadness. I am excited and proud to have been chosen for this new role; and I am genuinely saddened to leave BuxMont.
You, the members and friends of the congregation, have been supportive, open to creativity and adaptation, humane employers, generous friends to my family, and encouraging of my professional growth. This has been my family’s fellowship home for more than half of every one of my children’s lives, and they will maintain some connections here (exact plans to be determined – I know they will want to join me at MLUC sometimes, but I also know they want to stay in relationship with friends here!)
At the same time, I expect that working one full-time job instead of part time for BuxMont and part time as a doula will be a relief. (I do plan to continue taking repeat doula clients occasionally.) I am excited to expand into a ‘Lifespan’ role, which means I will work to support adult religious education as well as the program for children and youth. And I look forward to getting to know a whole new congregation full of wonderful people.
The RE Board will be taking leadership on finding an interim or acting DRE to start work at BuxMont sometime in the summer. And they are very, very competent leaders themselves, who will work hard to keep everything running as it should. I will be working with them to have the summer program completely planned, set up, and running before I leave. We will also put as much in place for the fall as possible, to make things easier for the incoming DRE. If you are asked to help, please consider saying yes (we are especially in need of a RE Board Chair, since most of the current members are term-limited from continuing in this role or taking it on.)
I look forward to saying goodbye, and thank you, in person at some point before mid-June.
