Our BuxMont community is woven deeply together by our connections with each other and by rich diversity of experiences, activities and contributions we share with each other and the world. Music is a part of that rich tapestry which enriches and deepens our connections with each other, with the larger world, and with the divine. Music in our services can open our hearts to healing, to sorrow, to joy, to spirit. When we listen together in a worship service, coffeehouse, or concert the shared experience is a gift brought to us by our musicians. When we raise our voices together in a hymn or a song circle, we become part of the music, tuning our hearts, minds and breath together in our journeys of spirit. When we share our musical talents and skills in a chorus, ensemble, or solo we not only serve our BuxMont community, but experience the power of the music flowing through us.
The music community at BuxMont is rich and varied. And fall is a great time to connect more deeply with our music program. The Music Committee needs folks, musicians or not, who can help organize our events, who can help guide our overall program, and who can provide vision and energy to our programs. Our performing groups are open to people of all levels of talent and experience, nurturing and growing everyone whether beginner or soloist. Here are some of the opportunities:
Creedless Creekwater Revival (instrumental and vocal ensemble) – Rehearses on Thursday Nights at 7:00 PM on an ongoing basis. Performs in services and other events as scheduled. Coordinated by Greg Sturn.
BuxMont Choir (Youth and adults) – Rehearses Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM starting September 4. The choir sings several times a month in our Sunday services and for a few special events through the year. Directed by John Hook.
Metaphysical Singers (Men’s a capella chorus) – Rehearses some Saturday mornings on an ongoing basis. The Metaphysical Singers perform every month or two in our services, and also participates in coffeehouses and in outreach concerts to the larger commu- nity. Directed by Jim Roberts.
Family Choir (intergenerational) – Rehearses on some Sunday mornings. This intergenerational choir sings several times a year and has several weekly rehearsals before each performance. Directed by John Hook.
Treblemakers (Women’s Chorus) – Rehearses on an as needed basis for specific performances. Currently not as active as last year. Coordinated by Erin Mulder. (Perhaps you could help her?)
Instant Choir – Occasional “no commitment” choir which rehearses on the day they perform. Directed by John Hook.
Classical Instrumentalists (occasional performances of solos, duets, trios and quartets). Coordinated by John Hook.
Solo Singers and Instrumentalists – contribute to our coffeehouses, song services and Sunday Services. If you would like to be on our soloist roster, please contact John Hook who coordinates the opportunities.
Each of our performing groups is a special community within itself. We learn from each other, we grow together as friends as well as an ensemble, we have fun, and together we serve the larger community. I encourage anyone who is interested in being in one of our groups to try it this fall!
